About Little Acorns
Maribel Ortiz built the center she wanted for her own kids
Maribel spent nine years teaching Pre-K in Garland before she opened Little Acorns in 2019. She had watched too many good teachers leave the field burned out, and too many families settle for a center that felt more like a waiting room than a classroom.
Fifteen years into early childhood education, she still teaches a Friday morning circle herself, walks every family through the building in person, and keeps her office door open during pickup so parents can ask her anything directly.
Maribel Ortiz holds a bachelor's degree in early childhood education and has led Little Acorns since it opened its doors on Merriman Road.
The philosophy behind every classroom
Play is the curriculum
Children learn letters and numbers best through blocks, dramatic play, and songs, not worksheets. Our lesson plans are built around what a child can touch and try.
Routine builds confidence
The same morning circle, the same cubby, the same teacher's voice each day gives children the steadiness to explore further on their own.
Parents are part of the classroom
Daily notes, an open door policy, and a director who knows your child's name are not extras here. They are how we run every classroom.
Come meet Maribel and the team
Tours are led in person, most weekday mornings, and there is no pressure to decide on the spot.
